Word Play Masters does a contest each year whereby people take a word from the dictionary; alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter (and only one letter); and then supply a new definition.
Fortunately, the organizers post entries all year round, so we do not have to wait for the “awards” to enjoy this year’s creativity. Here are some of my favorites so far this year:
- Agregious Strong agree
- Cantemplate Thinking negatively
- Horroscope A colonoscopy
- Incredable Having the ability and skill to believe the impossible
- Mobscure An unknown gang
- Practicat A sensible feline
- Puriosity Pure curiosity
- Startvation The beginning of a long hunger
- Veteranarian A doctor for old soldiers
Enjoy.
How about this one? Flustrate — Flustered and frustrated at the same time.
